Worldwind Sound Division
9 MIDI files · 3 patches · free to use on your own records, including commercial releases
This is the easiest way to hear what Worldwind Sound Division is about.
You get a focused free preview pulled directly from the full library: the same swing logic, the same scene-specific programming, and the same attention to how these records actually moved. It is free to download and free to use on your own records, including commercial releases. Just do not resell the files.
What’s inside
Drums
Supplied in three kit mappings so you can load the groove into the kit you already use:
- VinylHouseDrums — C3 upward.
- TR707 — C1 upward.
- GeneralMIDI — standard GM percussion.
If the pads land wrong, you have the wrong mapping. The included kit map shows every pad and note number, including the free DR-84 layout.
Hear the difference
- DRM_ChicagoJack_122bpm — 55.8% swing. Off-beat sixteenths land late and the groove rocks side to side.
- DRM_NYGarage_118bpm — 57.9% swing. The loosest here, but the swing is only on the percussion. Kick and snare stay locked to the grid.
That second detail is the part most people miss. Swing everything and you get a shuffle. Swing only the tops and you get the pull that made the Paradise Garage work.
Quantize either file to a straight grid and you lose the one thing that makes it sound like a record.
Basslines
- BAS_JackRoll — Chicago. Notes are cut just under a sixteenth so the envelope retriggers and the attack stays intact.
- BAS_AcidLoop — Acid. Notes overlap on purpose, because on a 303 an overlap is a slide. The pitch glides and the line stays alive.
Shorten those acid notes and the slides disappear.
Patches
- WWC_Jack_Bass.h2p — Tyrell N6 mono bass with square and saw layers, tight filter, and zero attack.
- WWC_Jack_Chords.h2p — Tyrell N6 poly patch with Chorus II engaged.
- WWC_Acid_Bass.vital — Vital acid bass with cutoff and resonance on macros for live sweeps.
Tyrell N6 and Vital are both free downloads.
